West Bend, WI, United States (4E) – Matt Roberts, the original and the former guitarist of the band 3 Doors Down, was found dead at his hotel.
Robert was 38 when he passed away. His father, Darrell, confirmed the reports about Roberts saying that they traveled to West Bend, Wisconsin as his son was supposed to be part of a benefit event at a local restaurant. The event was entitled “Rockin’ For Heroes.”
His cause of death has not been identified yet but police officials said they responded to a call on Saturday saying that a man passed out or was asleep in the hallway of his hotel. Bend Police said in their Facebook page, “There were no signs of trauma on the body, and the cause of death is unknown at this time.”
Darrell added, "I was wakened at 8:50 this morning by some detectives beating on my door. It's always scary as a parent, they were in suits and that's when they told me. They asked me if Matt Roberts was your son, I said yes, and they said 'we have bad news to tell you, Matt deceased last night.'"
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death of Roberts. It is suspected that drug overdose is a factor to his death. Darrell said that he knows his son had prescription drug addiction as he suffered greatly from anxiety.
Roberts has been part of 3 Doors Down from when it was formed in 1996 until 2012. He had to leave 3 Doors Down for health-related reasons.
