Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Casey Affleck won the Best Actor Award during the recently held Academy Awards 2017 and the actor said he regrets he was not able to thank his kids during his acceptance speech.
There has been a lot of fuss over Affleck due to the sexual harassment allegations and it has become a full blown hot topic after winning many awards during the awards season and the latest win for him is the Best Actor award during the recently held Academy Awards 2017.
E! News caught up with Affleck after the show and he said he failed to thank the two very important people in his life. He only thanked his parents, his girlfriend, his brother Ben, co-producer Matt Damon, director Kenneth Lonergan, his friends, and his fellow nominee, Denzel Washington during his acceptance speech. The two children of Affleck were not mentioned by him. He shared 12-year-old Indiana and nine-year-old Atticus with his ex Summer Phoenix.
He said not thanking his kids was something he could never live down and after three second when he made it backstage, his phone rang and, “my son said, 'You didn't even mention us.' And my heart just sank." He noted it would have been the most meaningful thing he did for his kids but he failed at doing that.
Affleck won the Best Actor for his performance in “Manchester by the Sea” and it focused on him playing the role of a troubled man who lost his children. He was then forced to care for his nephew after the child’s father died. This was the second nomination for Affleck but is the first win by the actor. He also won Best Actor in a Motion Picture at the 2017 Golden Globes for the same movie.
More on the sexual harassment allegations, he denied being involved in such since the report surfaced in 2010. Due to this issue, many took to Twitter to say he did not deserve to win because people who commit sexual harassment should lose their jobs and should not be honored in any way. Another called Affleck a sexual predator while one sarcastically said if Trump, who is accused of sexual abuse, can become president, it is fair that Affleck will win an Oscar.
Affleck has not commented on the backlash. Aside from Washington, Andrew Garfield was also nominated for the Best Actor award for “Hacksaw Ridge,” Ryan Gosling for “La La Land,” and Viggo Mortensen for “Captain Fantastic.”
