Celine Dion greets mourners in Rene Angelil’s open casket viewing

Montreal, Ottawa, Canada (4E) – Celine Dion’s husband Rene Angelil died last week and an open casket viewing has been set up for the fans of the late musical icon.

Hundreds of people reported lined up at Montreal’s Notre Dame Basilica to pay their respects on Thursday afternoon and Dion was there to greet each and every one of them. The visitors are a mix of family, friends, and fans. The doors opened at 2:30 in the afternoon.

As per the photos snapped by paparazzi, the mother of Dion, Therese, was seen arriving at the church to support her daughter. The Dion family is also mourning the loss of her brother, Daniel, who died of the same illness as Angelil , which is cancer, just days after Dion’s husband loss his battle to the disease.

Angelil’s funeral is to be held on Friday at 3 P.M. at the basilica, the same church where he and Dion tied the knot back in 1994. The ceremony will be live streamed as Dion said on her Facebook page. The reason being, “From anywhere across the globe, it will be possible to follow René Angélil's state funeral online tomorrow.”

Dion also posted on her page the following tribute: "He will be remembered as a gentle man, generous and kind, an unprecedented visionary, a modern Pygmalion, a Renaissance man. All who had the privilege of knowing him and of working closely with him, whether personally or professionally, salute a leader and a man of great intelligence and wisdom."

According to reports, Angelil planned his entire funeral before he died. An insider said that Angelil has been preparing for it in the past months as he did not know when it will happen so he wanted everything to be set.

Angelil is survived by Dion and their three children, 14-year-old Rene-Charles and their five-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy. He also has other children from his previous marriage namely Anne-Marie, Patrick, and Jean-Pierre.
