Jennifer Lopez set to play drug lord Griselda Blanco in new TV movie

Hollywood, CA, United States (4E) – Jennifer Lopez is developing a TV movie for HBO and it will star her playing the real life notorious drug lord Griselda Blanco.
Blanco is known as “The Cocaine Grandmother” and was at the height of the drug trade in the 1970s and 1980s . She is also known for murdering around 200 people during her reign. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents arrested her in her home in California in 1985 and was sentenced to ten years in prison. She was then deported to Colombia in 2004. Blanco was killed in a drive-by shooting in Medellin . She was shot twice in the head in 2012.
The HBO TV movie will reportedly focus on the rise and the fall of Blanco and how she became the most powerful female cartel member in history.
Aside from playing the role of Blanco, Lopez will also serve as an executive producer of the TV movie. She will be producing with her Nuyorican Productions banner. It remains unclear who will be starring in the TV movie alongside Lopez but it was announced that she will be working with LBI Entertainment’s Julie and Rick Yorn and the co-executive producers are Alex Pettyfer , Priscilla Porianda , and Patrick Walmsley .
Lopez said in a statement about choosing Blanco as the center of the new TV movie, “I’ve been fascinated by the life of this corrupt and complicated woman for many years. The idea of teaming with HBO felt like the perfect fit for finally bringing Griselda’s story to life.”
Blanco has been the center of the 2006 documentary “Cocaine Cowboys.”
Lopez currently stars on the NBC show “Shades of Blue,” which has been picked up for a second season. She is also the executive producer for the new reality dance competition entitled “World of Dance.”
