New York City, NY, United States (4E) – After Michael Strahan was set to depart from “Live! With Kelly and Michael” at an earlier time instead of the agreed fall exit, it has been announced that Jimmy Kimmel will be the first guest co-host of Kelly Ripa .

Strahan will no longer be part of the show starting May 13. He will slowly be integrated into the other ABC show “Good Morning America” before he starts to be part of the morning show full-time by September.

Kimmel will be joining Ripa on May 16 and the announcement comes weeks after the behind-the-scenes drama between the two hosts. Strahan announced his exit while hosting the show with a guest co-host and Ripa felt like she was blindsided as she was not given any heads up regarding the matter. Ripa then took a brief leave and only returned last week during the Tuesday episode of the show.

Before Ripa came back on “Live!,” Strahan co-hosted the show with guests like Erin Andrews, Shay Mitchell, and Ana Gasteyer . It was reported that he was nervous for the return of Ripa as he knows how upset his former co-host is.

ABC then issued a public apology to Ripa after her emotional return to the show. She talked about the need for respect in the workplace as she said that she considers “Live!” her second home and her second family. Ripa has been on the show for the past 15 years.

She added in her statement, “In that time, I gained some perspective. I always speak from the heart. I didn't want to come out here and just, like, say something I might regret. What transpired, though, over the course of a few days has been extraordinary in the sense that it started a much greater conversation about communication and consideration and, most importantly, respect in the workplace.”

It remains unclear until when will “Live!” bring in guest co-hosts for Ripa and when will there be a permanent new co-host of the show. The names of Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen have been swirling in the past weeks but it is still unknown who will ultimately fill Strahan’s seat.
