What Perry admired most were the scenes where Lorde danced on top of a vehicle and was hanging out of the car’s window. Perry wrote, “@lorde that's a yus kween dance on that @lyft.”
Lorde did not just write and sang the song but she also co-produced the video and everything in it when it came to the background music, the arrangements, and many more. She worked with Frank Dukes and Bleacher’s Jack Antonoff.
Lorde also told Beats 1 radio show that “Green Light” was inspired by her first major heartbreak. She shared it is about the moments immediately after a person’s life changes and all about the silly things a person thinks about. She added, "It sounds so heavy and the lyrics are so intense, and I thought, 'How is this thing coming out so joyous-sounding?' And I realized it was like, 'This is that drunk girl at the party dancing around, crying about her ex-boyfriend, that everyone thinks is a mess. That's tonight and tomorrow, she starts to rebuild.'"
She also said she is proud of her song and that the 20-year-old thinks the new single is different and unexpected.
