New York City, NY, United States (4E) – Madonna was blasted by critics regarding her 2016 Met Gala outfit as it was reportedly not in line with the theme but the pop icon said that it was a political statement.
Her outfit at the annual fashion event was one of the least favorites but she is no stranger to turning heads when it comes to what she wears. The outfit was said to be made by Riccardo Tisci and the lace ensemble exposed her breasts and her derriere.
The singer then took to her social media account to make a statement after being criticized for what she wore. She said, "We have fought and continue to fight for civil rights and gay rights around the world. When it comes to Women's rights we are still in the dark ages. My dress at the Met Ball was a political statement as well as a fashion statement."
Madonna also said that the fact that people believe a woman is not allowed to express her sexuality and be adventurous past a certain age, it is proof that people are still living in an “age-ist and sexist society.”
She continued to say that people cannot effect change unless they are willing to take risks by being fearless and by taking the road less traveled by. Madonna added, "If you have a problem with the way I dress it is simply a reflection of your prejudice. I'm not afraid to pave the way for all the girls behind me As Nina Simone once said, the definition of freedom is being fearless. I remain Unapologetic and a Rebel in this life and all the others. Join my fight for Gender. Equality!"
Aside from Madonna, other stars who were called out for their outfit are Sarah Jessica Parker and Diane Von Furstenburg . Parker also took to Instagram to respond to the fashion blogger who criticized their outfits.
