Washington, DC, United States (4E) – The Academy Awards this year has become popular mostly because there was a mix-up regarding the Best Picture between “La La Land” and “Moonlight” and President Donald Trump said in a statement he believes the mistake was because there was too much politics during the event.
Trump said in an interview with the conservative Breitbart news website that the mix-up was because the producers of the event focused too much on politics. He added, “I think they were focused so hard on politics that they didn’t get the act together at the end. It was a little sad. It took away from the glamour of the Oscars. It didn’t feel like a very glamorous evening. I’ve been to the Oscars. There was something very special missing, and then to end that way was sad.”
There were many segments of the show took aim at Trump such as statements from host Jimmy Kimmel and a speech by an Iranian filmmaker who did not attend the Oscars to protest the travel ban implemented by the Trump administration. At one point, Kimmel took to Twitter to ask Trump if he was awake during the awards ceremony. A representative for the president answered for him saying, “@realDonaldTrump is busy meeting w/governors of the nation. You know, people that actually get things done, not just pretend to in costume.”
How Trump handled the jokes against him at the Oscars this year was a departure from the previous years. He usually took to Twitter to say the Oscars was boring or sad. In 2014, Trump said he should have hosted the Oscars to shake things up.
The Academy has not yet commented on the remark of Trump regarding the show being too political thus the mix-up.
