Manhattan, NY, United States (4E) – Rapper Lil Mama, most famous for her song “Lip Gloss,” was arrested on Thursday morning in New York, the New York Police Department has confirmed.
According to reports, the rapper and the actress, whose real name is Niatia Kirkland, was arrested at 4:04 A.M. Authorities said that she was driving a 2015 Infiniti and was speeding as she went 38 miles per hour in a 25 miles per hour zone. This was near Fifth Avenue and W. 135th Street. Officers then pulled her over and she was not able to producer her driver’s license.
As per police records, officers were able to determine that Lil Mama’s driving privileges were revoked. This is because of a speeding summon that was not addressed back in 2013. After the checking was done, Lil Mamma was arrested and taken to New York’s 32nd precinct as she awaits arraignment. She is now facing charges of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, violation of local law and driving without a license.
The 26-year-old then released an apology on Thursday afternoon. She said in a statement, “I would like to apologize to my family, friends and fans for my actions last night. I made a mistake and it was totally irresponsible of me to drive without a valid driver’s license. My actions do not in any way reflect who I am as a person.”
She added that she has learned a valuable lesson and that she understands the consequences of her actions resulting to her arrest. Lil Mamma continued, “I appreciate the support and the concern for my well-being during this time. I have worked very hard, and I would like to continue to be a role model for young women and men. With that being said, I accept full responsibility for my actions and will take the necessary measures to have this quickly resolved and corrected.”
Aside from her hit “Lip Gloss,” she is also known for her role as Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in the VH1 biographical movie “CrazySexyCool : The TLC Story.” She also was a former judge for America’s Best Dance Crew.
