Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon will be starring in the new HBO show “Big Little Lies” and the two women talked about how it is being a female in Hollywood during Elle’s Women in Television event.
The event was held at the Chateau Marmont on Saturday and the “Big Little Lies” actresses star alongside Laure Linney , Shailene Woodley , and Zoe Kravitz. These women were honored at the event but they talked more about being women in Hollywood at the panel for “Big Little Lies” at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena on Saturday morning.
Witherspoon shared, “For 25 years, I have been the only woman on set, so I had no other women to talk to. They call it like the ‘Smurfette Syndrome,’ where she’s got 100 Smurfs around, but she’s the only girl.” That would be the different case now since Witherspoon will be working with a room full of women for their HBO series. The seven-part limited series was also produced by Kidman and Witherspoon.
Speaking about the roles on “Big Little Lies,” Witherspoon said that the series will be showing every spectrum and color of a woman’s life. She added, “I’m passionate because things have to change. We have to start seeing women on film as they really are… We need to see real women’s experiences… The constant incredible talent of women playing wives and girlfriends, I had enough.”
Kidman also said that they are excited to show the lives of the women in their HBO limited series as it is very authentic and entertaining at the same time. She added that the show is about women helping and supporting each other and that she loves that it is about women coming together with friendship being the root of it.
Woodley , on the other hand, said that she stands against hate, greed, patriarchy, and anything that puts down another in a negative way. Kravitz said that she is excited to play the role of a mother and said that it is a beautiful and a new interesting territory she would play.
