Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Shailene Woodley was honored at the 2016 Environmental Media Awards for her activism and in her acceptance speech, “The Fault In Our Stars” actress talked about environmental issues.

The event was on Saturday evening at the Warner Bros. Studios lot. Before going inside the event, Entertainment Weekly caught up with Woodley and she shared, "For me, it's not about helping the environment or saving the environment. It's about recognizing that if I want my children to know a world where Manhattan isn't all the way under water — because guess what, ladies and gentlemen, that world is not too distant and it's a reality that we must start facing and waking up to — [then] we've gotta work our asses off now to make that happen."

The 24-year-old also gave a passionate and heartfelt acceptance speech during the event. She noted that thousands of people commit to fighting and winning a battle against corporate greed but they do not do it with love and compassion. She encouraged people to live a more compassionate life because the ripple effect will save the planet and the human race in general. Her speech has received a standing ovation from the audience.

A fan of Woodley , who was also at the event, is Ian Somerhalder’s wife, Nikki Reed. Reed shared that she is the biggest fan of Woodley and that she is her soul sister. Reed noted that she loves what Woodley stands for and she hopes that the actress brings attention to what are going on right now.

The event came after Woodley was arrested in North Dakota for criminal trespassing. Woodley took part in a protest against the oil pipeline being built that stretches through many states. The project is called the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Woodley received the EMA Futures Award as well as Jaden Smith.
