Malibu, CA, United States (4E) – The investigation on the long-running weight loss reality show has started after reports have surfaced saying that contestants were given drugs while on set.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that the Malibu/Lost Hills Station personnel are conducting an inquiry regarding the matter. They added that the allegations are unsubstantiated at this time and that no other information is available.

It is possible that the investigators handling the case will be looking at the area where the reality show is shot. It is located at King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas. The latest season entitled “The Biggest Loser: Temptation Nation” ended last February 22. In the 17th season, Bob Harper took over as the host of the show and Dolvett Quince as well as Jennifer Widerstrom have once again become trainers.

“The Biggest Loser” producer EndemolShine North America said in a statement that the safety and well-being of the contestants is their number one priority. The producer added, “Contestants are told at the start of the show that there is zero tolerance for any weight-loss drugs. We prohibit the use of any illegal substances, in addition to the many other rules and procedures of the show that are designed to ensure safety.”

“The Biggest Loser” Season 10 winner Patrick House also released a statement saying that the show did not use any drugs and that it saved his life. The 33-year-old noted that when he joined the show, he was 424 pounds heavy and if he did not join, he would be around 500 pounds and most probably dead.

House has defended the show from the claims made by a former contestant named Joelle Gwynn . She said in a statement that she was given weight loss pill by the assistant of Harper.

House shared that he worked with Harper during his time on the show so it is difficult to believe that the claims of Gwynn are true. He added that he laughed at her statements as he knows that Harper will not jeopardize his career or the show.

Harper also denied the allegations saying that they are false and are in direct conflict with his lifelong devotion to health and fitness.
