Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Actor Wentworth Miller has slammed the recent internet meme that has been going viral wherein he put on a little weight.
On March 28, Miller took to his Facebook to explain why the memes are not funny. The former “Prison Break” actor was the subject of the meme wherein a photo of his role as Michael Scofield , who was toned and had a great body, was placed alongside a rather unflattering photo of the latter showing his apparent weight gain. The photo was said to be taken in 2010 in his early days in Hollywood.
Miller said that he avoided the public eye in 2010 as he was suicidal noting that he suffered in silence. He added, “I’ve struggled with depression since childhood. It’s a battle that’s cost me time, opportunities, relationships, and a thousand sleepless nights.”
The actor continued to say that he turned to food in order to help him cope with his mental issues. He added in his rant: “The actor continued, "In 2010, at the lowest point in my adult life, I was looking everywhere for relief/comfort/distraction. And I turned to food. It could have been anything. Drugs. Alcohol. Sex. But eating became the one thing I could look forward to…And I put on weight. Big f–king deal.”
He then said that he survived and he is glad that these pictures are out as when he sees them now, he is reminded of his struggle, his endurance, and his perseverance. He revealed that when he saw the meme in his social media feed, he was hurt but he chooses to assign meaning with everything in his life. The actor then assigned meaning to the image noting that he is allocating healing, strength, and forgiveness.
Aside from talking about his struggles, he also encouraged other people who are depressed or have problems. He noted that help is available and that someone cares. If anyone needs help, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
