Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Alicia Keys went make-up free during this year’s MTV Video Music Awards and took to Twitter to talk about why she did such move.
Some people believed that Keys was going make-up free because she was against make-up in general. One tweeted, " @aliciakeys looks a F–KING MESS & needs to get TF off the stage." Another wrote, "I'm all for natural beauty but Alicia girl you not setting no trend with this no makeup s–t. Put on concealer & call it a day.”
The 35-year-old Grammy winner then tweeted on Monday, “Y’all me choosing to be makeup free doesn’t mean I’m anti-makeup. Do you!” The mother-of-two honored Martin Luther King Jr . during the MTV VMAs and also presented the Best Male Video to Calvin Harris.
Keys was also the forefront of the # NoMakeup movement this summer wherein she talked about her announcement that she will no longer be wearing makeup. She also went make-up free at the Democratic National Convention, at the BET Awards, and for her appearance for the September issue of the magazines Ebony and Grazia .
Keys also wrote in an essay for Lena Dunham’s Lenny Letter about her decision to be make-up free. She wrote, "I hope to God it's a revolution. 'Cause I don't want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing."
Keys is not the first star to go make-up free on a red carpet event. Meryl Streep has not been wearing make-up for years now when she attends different events. Mila Kunis also recently graced the cover of Glamour magazine that was sort of make-up free. Kunis said that she does not wear make-up everyday and does not also wash her hair on a daily basis. Tyra Banks also showed off how she looked like on mornings without any make-up at all.
