Denver, CO, United States (4E) – Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell broke up months after the Season 20 of the dating show “Bachelor” ended.
The two called off their engagement and said in a joint statement, “It is with heavy hearts that we announce our decision to go our separate ways. We feel fortunate for the time we had together, and will remain friends with much love and respect for one another. We wish nothing but the best for each other, and ask for your support and understanding at this time.” The news came as a surprise since the two have been living together in Denver.
They also had a reality show based on their relationship called “Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After?” The show revealed their issues mainly regarding trust. Eventually, they revealed that they put their wedding on hold. In one episode of the show, Higgins, 29, said that they really needed more time as an engaged couple because Bushnell, 27, decided she will get a coconut wedding cake and did not realize he was allergic.
Another controversy surrounding the relationship of Higgins and Bushnell is the fact that he said “I love you” to the last two women in the season 20 of “Bachelor.” Bushnell competed against JoJo Fletcher for the final rose. In a statement recently revealed by Bushnell regarding the controversy, she said, “I fall more in love with Ben every day, and it’s hard to separate what happened long ago and my current feelings. It’s confusing. It does wear on me. It’s like, why did I have to go through that hurt? It’s already a few months of confusion and tears, and then to have to deal with it again. It’s hard.” The two also underwent counselling at their church.
Fletcher went on to become the next “The Bachelorette” and is now engaged to Jorden Rodgers.
