Hamden, CT, United States (4E) – A local TV meteorologist from Connecticut was arrested on charges of possessing child pornography, authorities have confirmed.
According to reports, the meteorologist was identified as Justin Goldstein, 33. He is with WTNH-TV in New Haven and was apprehended on Wednesday. The investigation on Goldstein started last month when video files of alleged child pornography were downloaded from his internet account.
Authorities from the federal, state, and local level were able to find child pornography on the computers and other devices used by Goldstein. These were seized from his home in Hamden .
The 33-year-old has been suspended from WTNH-TV after the charges were made official. His biography is said to have been removed from the website of the station and all of his social media accounts have been taken down. WTNH-TV General Manager Mark Higgins said in a statement, “We are deeply concerned by these allegations. Until the matter is resolved, Justin Goldstein is suspended from his duties at WTNH.”
Before his social media accounts were taken down, some people who watched the weatherman posted on his Facebook page. One post said that families enjoyed watching Goldstein but he betrayed them. The post also reads: "The jail house you'll be headed to will be relentless on you-absolutely relentless. Rightfully so too."
The official charges are first-degree possession of child pornography and promoting a minor in an obscene performance. He is now free after he posted a $200,000 bond. He will be back in court on July 26 for his first court appearance.
Goldstein has not released any statement about the matter. It is also unclear if he has a lawyer representing him.
