Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Dax Shepard is celebrating sobriety for 12 years now and he took to Twitter to mark his special day.
Shepard has been very vocal in the past regarding his drug abuse and how he struggled. Shepard tweeted: "12 years ago today I came out of my last toxic, life threatening stupor. I now have a wife & babies & some self-esteem #gratitude #promises." He is married to his wife, Kristen Bell, and they have two daughters together, namely Lincoln, 3, and Delta, 20 months old.
In an interview with Playboy a few years ago, Shepard said that he loved to get “f*** ed up” with drinking, cocaine, marijuana, diet pills, pain pills, opiates, and basically everything he could get his hands on. He added that he lived for going down the rabbit hole and meeting weird people.
Even his wife, 36-year-old Bell talked about his past struggles. In an interview last July on “CBS Sunday Morning” while promoting “Bad Moms,” Bell said that Shepard knows the value of things and he knows how many times he has messed up and how many times he was close to losing everything.
Earlier this year, Shepard also revealed that being sexually assaulted when he was a child might have contributed to his drug abuses. He was interviewed on “The Jason Ellis Show” and he said an 18-year-old neighbor assaulted him. Although he felt the assault was only “minimal,” it took him 12 years to tell anyone about that.
He added, “If you've been molested, you only have a 20 percent chance of not being an addict. And I was like, ‘Hmm, interesting,' because in my mind I just like to have a f–king great time. But when you hear a statistic like that, I'm like, ‘Oh no, I was going to be an addict, period.'”
Shepard and Bell dated for six years before they tied the knot in 2013.
