Hollywood, CA, United States (4E) – After reports of Justin Bieber having a fist fight in Cleveland surfaced online, DJ Diplo’s cover interview for Billboard magazine was also released and in it, he came into the “Sorry” crooner’s defense.
The famous DJ worked with the 22-year-old singer on the hit song “Where Are U Now.” The song was released in 2015 and is part of the singer’s Purpose album, which has been on top since its outing.
Diplo shared, "He had just turned 21, and he was like, ' Yo , man, I want to thank you, because this is the first time I've ever had adults clap for me. This is like a big deal.’ You think about that, and yeah, he was kind of like a clown on a pedestal. People just like picked on him."
“Where Are U Now” earned Bieber’s first Grammy nomination this year. This was not the first time that Diplo talked about Bieber as he also talked about the singer on the red carpet of the aforementioned event. Diplo shared, "I think he just loves new music. And I think he changed and grew a lot the last couple years. It's amazing to see him be excited about what we're doing and just take a chance with us. That's all we ask as producers is someone to like give us that faith and just let us do what we do, what we're good at, and I think he did. And we all won in the end."
Aside from talking about Bieber, Diplo shared more about being a DJ. He told the publication that being a DJ is the corniest group of people as they are not celebrities and are not famous for any good reason. On a more serious note, Diplo said that DJing is a dying industry.
The famous DJ then talked about wanting to collaborate with Sam Hunt.
