Austin, TX, United States (4E) – Ed Sheeran will be seen in the next season of “Game of Thrones” and reports confirmed his new album “Divide” continues to remain on top.
The “GOT” acting gig was announced by the executive producers of the show, David Benioff and Dan Weiss. They announced Sheeran’s addition to the cast on Sunday at a South by Southwest panel in Austin, Texas. No details about Sheeran’s “Game of Thrones” role were released and it is unclear if he will be seen immediately when the show returns for its latest season this July 16.
Benioff shared, “For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie [Williams], and this year we finally did it.”
This is not the first acting gig for 26-year-old Sheeran. He had a recurring role in the FX drama called “The Bastard Executioner” in 2015. He also made cameo in last year's “Bridget Jones' Baby” with Renée Zellweger.
Benioff also shared “Game of Thrones” Season 8, which is the final season of the HBO series, will only have six episodes. Benioff and Weiss did not say if there will be a prequel or spinoff but they said they would be open to these projects if given the chance.
Sheeran’s latest tracks and album have sold 451,000 copies since being launched earlier this week. His hot single from the album called “Shape of You” also topped the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the past month.
Sheeran will start with his North American tour this June 29.
