New York, NY, United States (4E Sports) – New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr . revealed that he was fined $18,000 by the NFL for wearing Craig Sager tribute cleats in their 17-6 win over the Detroit Lions Sunday.
Beckham made the revelation in reply to an Instagram post by DeSean Jackson, in which the Washington Redskins wide receiver said he was fined $18,000 by the NFL for nonconforming cleats.
"I got fined 18k for Craig Sager cleats that were auction off the cleats to the highest bidder and donating the proceeds to his cancer research," Beckham tweeted.
The NFL allowed players to wear tribute cleats for charity earlier this season but not during this past week's games.
Beckham did not wear the cleats in Sunday's warm-ups but donned them for the game against the Lions.
Despite the fine, Beckham said he has something special planned for Thursday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Earlier, Beckham criticized the NFL for allowing Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott escaped without a fine for jumping into an oversize Salvation Army kettle.
"It's just the way the world works," Beckham said. "There are double standards everywhere. It's just how life is."
