Hollywood, CA, United States (4E) – “High School Musical 4” is set to take place as Disney Channel has given the production a green light ten years after the third installment of the franchise was released.

The first two movies of “High School Musical” were shown only on TV but the third installment hit the big screens. It is unclear if the next chapter will be hitting the TV screens or the theaters.

The nationwide casting search begins today for the next film. As per the plot, new East High Wildcats students will be meeting their cross-town school rivals, the West High Knights.

Disney Channel President Gary Marsh said in a statement, "High School Musical is part of Disney Channel's DNA. It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we're excited to announce 'the start of something new' as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the 'High School Musical' franchise."

Jeffery Hornaday , who directed “Teen Beach Movie” and “Teen Beach 2,” both of which are Disney Channel movies, has been tapped to direct and choreograph the new flick. Peter Barsocchini will be writing the script for “High School Musical 4” and is teaming up with Dan Berendsen , one of the writers for “Hannah Montana: The Movie.”

It also remains unclear if the original cast of Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashely Tisdale , Corbin Bleu, Lucas Grabeel , and Monique Coleman will be making appearances in the next installment or not.
