Las Vegas, NV, United States (4E) – After performing his two hit songs “Company” and “Sorry” during this year’s Billboard Music Awards, Justin Bieber took to Instagram to blast awards shows noting they are full of people with fake smiles.
Bieber was one of the performers at the annual event held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday. He was also named as the Top Male Artist and the Top Social Media Artist. He was nominated in 12 categories.
The 22-year-old started by saying: "I don't know about these award shows.. No disrespect to anybody at any of the shows or the people running it. Nothing but love for you guys and your support. But I don't feel good when I'm there nor after." He continued to say that he tries to think of the awards shows as a celebration but he cannot help but feel like he is being rated or graded for his performances. He also feels like a lot of people in the audience are only worried about how much camera time they would get or who they can build their network with.
He also said in his rant that whenever he does a regular show, he feels that the people in attendance are there for the right reasons and are just there to have a good time. However, the awards shows are getting quite hollow as per his point of view adding, “When I look in the audience I see a bunch of fake smiles so that when the camera hits them they look happy.”
Bieber did acknowledge the fact that there are people in the awards shows who are truly proud of the other artists but he is looking at the vast majority. He also said that he is getting awarded for the things that he does and not for who he is.
He ended his statement with this: “I am privileged and honored to be recognized by my peers in but in these settings I can't feel the recognition. There's an authenticity missing that I crave! And I wonder does anybody else.. Sorry not sorry about grammar it's not my strong point.”
Bieber did not drop names in his rant.
