Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – “American Idol” Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson has opened up about her own time working with Dr. Luke and she noted that she was blackmailed by him in the past.
This comes amid the legal battle of Kesha with Dr. Luke. Clarkson is one of the many artists who have commented on the issue and have rallied behind Kesha for support. Kesha claims that Dr. Luke sexually, emotionally, physically, and verbally assaulted her in the past that is why she wants her contract with him and Sony to be nullified. However, her request to be able to release music outside of her contract has recently been denied.
Clarkson appeared on “Kyle & Jackie O Show” and she shared, “The last time I worked with him I got blackmailed by my label. They were like, 'We will not put your album out if you don't do this.' It was really hard for me. I try to make the best of the situation.”
Clarkson has worked with Dr. Luke on her singles such as “Since U Been Gone” and “My Life Would Suck Without You.” She pointed out that Dr. Luke is good with what he does as a producer but he has a negative attitude towards the artists he handles.
She added, “I've run into a couple of really bad situations, musically. It's really hard for me because he'll just lie to people, and it makes the artist look bad. He's kind of difficult to work with and kind of demeaning. It's kind of unfortunate."
Despite her not-so-good experience with Dr. Luke, Clarkson said that she did not experience any of the things that Kesha claims he did to her.
However, after Clarkson’s interview, an insider said that she wished to work with Dr. Luke on more music in the past. The insider shared, "Luke was asked to work with her and that Kelly had actually returned to do more music with him.” Clarkson has not yet commented on this.
Dr. Luke has been denying the allegations of Kesha and said in a countersuit that he was just being extorted thus the claims.
Stars such as Adele, Lena Dunham, Lady Gaga and more have supported the “Die Young” singer publicly. Taylor Swift also donated $250,000 to Kesha to help her through her troubling time.
