Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Kesha’s mother, Pebe Sebert , has revealed in a recent interview why her daughter continued to work with Dr. Luke despite being drugged and raped allegedly.
The 59-year-old singer and songwriter told Billboard: "Dr. Luke almost destroyed us. He has done it intentionally." Kesha has filed a lawsuit against Dr. Luke two years after she has not released new music and two months after she completed her rehab stint for bulimia treatment.
Just recently, Kesha’s request to be able to release new music outside of Sony and Kemosabe Records, the label of Dr. Luke under Sony, has been denied by a judge. The judge said that Kesha could continue working with the label without having to interact with Dr. Luke in any way.
However, the lawyers of Kesha said that it will be the end of their client’s career as Sony and Dr. Luke will make sure that she will not be able to promote and release her music properly. A trial for the case is reportedly set to begin by 2017.
Sebert shared, " Kesha's allowed to work with another producer. But Luke gets to approve them. He gets to approve of anyone she works with. He has final say over everything. She was a prisoner. It was like someone who beats you every day and hangs you from a chain and then comes in and gives you a piece of bread. Luke would say, 'You look nice today,' and send her into ¬hysterics of happiness because she was programmed to expect nothing but abuse."
As per an affidavit filed last year, Kesha alleged that the abuse began at a party that they both attended. Kesha said that he and Dr. Luke left a club and he gave something to her and told her to take it. She added that she then woke up naked in his bed and felt like she was going to die. She then called her mom and told her she needed to go to the hospital.
Sebert shared with the magazine that she urged her daughter to come forward and end her relationship with Dr. Luke but the singer said that she wanted to have a shot at the music business and she had no choice but to work with him. She added, "Looking back, I don't know why we didn't go to the police. Kesha told me not to do anything. She said, 'Mom, I just want to sing. I don't want to be a rape-case victim. I just want to get my music out.' I didn't follow my instincts."
Dr. Luke’s team has once again said that the claims of Sebert are not true.
