New York City, NY, United States (4E) – President-elect Donald Trump believes that climate change is not an important matter but actor Leonardo DiCaprio , who is an advocate into bringing awareness regarding the subject, met with the politician to discuss about it.
According to reports, DiCaprio and Trump talked on Wednesday in New York City. Terry Tamminen , the chief executive of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, confirmed the meeting saying that they presented to Trump and his advisers a framework that was developed with leading people in the fields of economics and environmentalism. Tamminen was also the Environmental Protection Agency secretary of California during the administration of former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Tamminen added, "Our conversation focused on how to create millions of secure, American jobs in the construction and operation of commercial and residential clean, renewable energy generation.” Creating more jobs is one of the platforms of Trump but climate change has been an unwelcome idea. Trump said that climate change is a hoax made up by China as per a tweet in 2012.
Accordingly, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation floated ideas such as energy revolution and taking steps to conserve the natural habitats, reserves, and resources. The foundation also stated in the past that they are hoping for deep-water drilling to be banned everywhere but it is unclear if it was a topic during the meeting of the actor and the president-elect. The meeting lasted 90 minutes and DiCaprio reportedly furnished Trump a copy of the documentary “Before the Flood.”
Before the meeting with the president-elect, DiCaprio met with Trump’s daughter, Ivanka , and gave her the same documentary. Ivanka was also present during the Wednesday meeting.
Trump reportedly promised to watch the film and wanted to meet again next month. Trump and his representatives have not yet released a statement about the meeting.
