Michael Kors clears he did not dress Melania Trump for first joint address

Washington, DC, United States (4E) – During the first joint address of President Donald Trump to the Congress, First Lady Melania Trump was spotted wearing a black Michael Kors dress but the designer said he is a Hillary Clinton supporter and did not dress the wife of the president.
The dress is said to be worth $10,000 and many slammed her for wearing such an expensive wardrobe. On Wednesday, Kors announced that he did not dress Melania for the event. He said in a statement, “Mrs. Trump has been a longtime client at our New York boutique. She has a keen understanding of what works best for her and her lifestyle. My embroidered black suit reflects the streamlined glamour that she is known for.”
After Donald’s win, many designers in the United States expressed they will not dress the First Lady. Derek Lam, Marc Jacobs, Phillip Lim, Sophie Theallet, and Tom Ford were some of those who have announced their decision.
Theallet said, “As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom, and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next first lady. The rhetoric of racism, sexism and xenophobia unleashed by her husband’s presidential campaign are incompatible with the shared values we live by.”
Other designers, however, such as Carolina Herrera and Tommy Hilfiger, said they were willing to dress Melania.
Herrera said of dressing the first lady, she does not have a problem dressing any of the first ladies as she thinks it is out of respect for the country.
Melania has not yet commented on Kors’ statement.
