Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Naomi Watts and Live Schreiber are ending their 11-year relationship as they released a joint statement regarding the matter.
The statement reads: "Over the past few months we've come to the conclusion that the best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple. It is with great love, respect, and friendship in our hearts that we look forward to raising our children together and exploring this new phase of our relationship." They also asked for privacy as they want to protect their children.
The two have two children together, nine-year-old Alexander, and seven-year-old Samuel. The two never got married but they began dating in 2005.
The last time that Watts and Schreiber was seen together was last September 10 during the Toronto Film Festival premiere of their new boxing drama called “The Bleeder.” A week before that, they also went to the Venice Film Festival. On September 18, however, Schreiber brought his son Alexander as his date to the Emmys .
According to a source from the set of Schreiber’s Showtime series, “Ray Donovan,” the couple has been on the rocks for quite a while before they announced their separation.
Watts, 47, and Schreiber, 48, met at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual costume ball in 2005. Watts reportedly invited him out dancing after the Met Gala in 2005. The following day, they have gone out for cupcakes. Schreiber said in the past, "And we had a kiss – not a big kiss, but it was a kiss that was like, ooh. Then she went back to L.A. and I wrote her all the time. Lots of emails. I think that was it – seduced by email."
Watts was pregnant with their first child in 2007. A year later, their second baby was welcomed.
The two have been scrutinized in the past as they do not want to get married. Watts has been open about the matter in her past interviews saying that they are very much together and they are okay that they do not have a certificate to prove it.
The reason for the split is yet to be revealed.
