Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Renee Zellweger is set to come back to the big screen for her movie “Bridget Jones’s Baby” but another buzz surrounding her is about the rumors that her former husband, Kenny Chesney, is gay.
Zellweger was first asked about her split from Chesney when interviewed by Advocate. Zellweger and the country star got married in May 2005 but she filed for annulment four months after. She cited “fraud” as the reason for the annulment filing prompting rumors to surface that Chesney is gay.
The 47-year-old shared, “I forgot about that. It’s a pretty big thing to forget, isn’t it? That made me sad. It made me sad that somehow people were using that as a way to be cruel and calling someone gay as a pejorative, which has fateful consequences. Of course, there’s the bigger-picture problem of why anyone had to make up a story at all.”
Months after the annulment filing, Zellweger cleared that the term fraud was a simple legal language and is not a reflection of the character of Chesney. They also issued a joint statement back then saying that their split was because of a miscommunication of the objective of their marriage.
Zellweger also told Advocate that she has talked about what she needs to say on the matter and that she is an old-fashioned girl who does not feel it is appropriate to give everyone the right to pry into her private life by talking too much. She believes that such acts devalue a person as a human being if one shares something personal with billions of people.
Forty-eight-year-old Chesney also defended himself from the rumors in 2007. He said that he did not have to prove to anybody that he was not gay that is why he did not issue any statement about the tabloid reports.
