Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Selena Gomez recently wrapped up her “Revival” world tour and she announced that she is taking a break as she is suffering from depression and panic attacks.

She said in a statement that she has decided to take the time off in order to focus on her health as she has to cope with the side effects of her lupus diagnosis. She shared, "As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways. I've discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges."

The 24-year-old continued to say that she wants to be proactive and focus on maintaining her health and happiness. She went on to thank her fans for their support and that they should remember they are special to her but she has to face this chapter of her life.

The “Kill Em With Kindness” songstress received a number of positive responses for talking about taking a break. One wrote that she hopes the singer will feel better soon while another said Gomez did not owe anyone an explanation.

One more fan of Gomez took to Twitter to say: “Your happiness is what matter the most to us. We love you more than words can tell. Get well, angel! @selenagomez #WeAreHereForYouSelena.” The hashtag “# GetWellSoonSelena” also trended.

A rumor also spread saying that Gomez was suffering from substance or alcohol abuse thus the decision to take the time off. A source said that the reports are not true and that Gomez just has not felt like herself as of late. The source added, "She feels relieved that she can now make more sense of why she was feeling the way she was and is optimistic about the future."

Gomez did not specifically say for how long she will be taking the time off
