Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Serena Williams covered the latest issue of Glamour magazine and she talked about her former flame Drake, having children in the future, as well as gender wage gap in the sports industry.
Almost a year ago, Williams, a tennis champion, faced off in the United States Open Semifinals against Roberta Vinci. People were hoping that she would claim the 2015 Grand Slam title. However, she was defeated by Vinci in three sets.
Many have assumed that Drake was distracting Williams from being able to win the title. However, Williams clear that in her recent interview. The 34-year-old athlete shared, "I don't think that was fair. I'm the one who's playing, who's making mistakes or making winners. I'm not one to blame anyone else for anything. And I don't think anyone else should either. I played a really good opponent that day. And I wasn't at my best."
Although she did not get the 2015 Grand Slam title, Williams did secure Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year honor.
As for having a family of her own, the athlete shared that people being in their 30s does not mean they should be done with whatever career they are taking. She continued to reveal that her mother made her realize that a person is stronger in his or her thirties than in one’s twenties.
She added about having children, "I definitely want to have kids one day. That's something I've always wanted since as long as I could remember. The older I get, the more I'm like, 'I'm too young!'"
Williams also talked about gender pay gap in sports. She pointed out that she believes women deserve the same pay as men in any industry because they work as hard as men do. She said that she has been playing tennis since she was three years old and to be paid less due to her gender does not seem fair.
To read more about what Williams has to say, the latest issue of Glamour magazine will be out in newsstands this June 14.
