Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Simon Cowell thinks that Zayn Malik should have come to him first before announcing that he is developing a One Direction-based television show.

Malik recently broke the news that he will be having this project called “Boys.” Cowell said that the 23-year-old former One Direction singer should have consulted him first before signing on to the project. He added, "I think he should have come to me with it, if I'm being honest with you. Nothing surprises me anymore."

“Boys” will reportedly follow the formation of the boy band and will show the intense pressure of being part of such a successful band as well as the fame. The show is said to be written by the creators of The CW series “Beauty and the Beast,” Sherri Cooper Landsman and Jennifer Levin. “Boys” will be produced by “Law & Order” showrunners Dick Wolf and wife Noelle Wolf. The show will also be patterned from “Empire” as original music will be released from the show.

The former “American Idol” judge said that he hopes the boys would come to him with their ideas especially with the new project of Malik since it is related to something that he started from. He added that he felt he deserved come of the credit for the success of the bands. Despite feeling bad for the decision of Malik , Cowell shared, "I like everyone who's got ambition but I'm not going to lie, there's always part of me that thinks they should give it to me."

It is unclear if any of the other One Direction members will be in “Boys.” They have not yet commented on the matter.

Malik left One Direction last year and has since launched his solo album entitled “Mind of Mine.”
