Twitter will not reveal to Trump administration a key critic on social media platform

Washington, DC, United States (4E) – Twitter will not reveal the critic of President Donald Trump who uses the social media platform and to protect the person’s identity, they filed a lawsuit against the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
With the lawsuit, Twitter is preventing the DHS to take further steps in order to identify the user who always posts criticisms against the Trump administration. Twitter noted in their filing if they allow DHS any kind of access to unveil the person behind that specific Twitter account will have a “grave chilling effect on the speech of that account.” The tech giant also argued Homeland Security is unlawfully abusing their investigatory tool in order to find out who is behind the account that has the Twitter handle @ALT_USCIS.
The account criticized DHS, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the immigration policies of the Trump administration. According to the Twitter account, the user claimed he or she is a government employee who is part of the USCIS. The account remained active.
The lawsuit from Twitter came after DHS officials delivered summons to them via a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent. Twitter did not oblige and claimed the CBP does not have jurisdiction over the matter to demand such information regarding the person’s identity and other personal information and that providing such would violate the First Amendment right to free speech.
The Twitter user is represented by the American Civil Liberties Union(ACLU). An attorney with ACLU, Nathan Freed Wessler, said in a statement, “To unmask an anonymous speaker online, the government must have a strong justification. But in this case the government has given no reason at all, leading to concerns that it is simply trying to stifle dissent.”
DHS did not comment yet.
On other Twitter news, Twitter Japan just used Trump’s face in order to advertise the platform. In the posters placed at the trains stations in the country, it showed the president speaking into a microphone and pointing at someone or somewhere. The hashtag “#TrumpAdministration” written in Japanese was in the poster.
The new advertisements came days after Trump said without Twitter he would not be president. Trump is known for making the social media platform his choice of medium to air out his thoughts.
