Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Amid the domestic abuse reports regarding Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, Winona Ryder has released a statement saying that the actor has never been abusive with her during their relationship.
Heard has ended her 15-month marriage from Depp after she filed for divorce last May 23. Days after, Heard requested for a restraining order from Depp claiming that he has been abusive towards her. The hearing on the domestic violence claims has been postponed until August 2 this year.
Ryder does not know the truth about what happened to Depp and Heard but she reportedly believes that the actor is innocent of Heard’s accusations. Heard and Depp met on the set of “Edward Scissorhands” and they got engaged. However, they split back in 1992 after being together for four years.
Ryder shared in a statement, "I can only speak from my own experience. It's very tricky because if it were any other type of scandal, like cheating, you could be like, 'None of my business. No comment. Not appropriate for me.' But I think because what is being said is so horrific and such a global issue for millions of women, obviously, that I understand why people feel it is their business. I get it. And I get why you would ask."
Ryder was interviewed by Time magazine and she added that he was never abusive toward her and knows him as a good, loving, and a caring guy. She also added that Depp is very protective of the people that he loves. However, despite her positive statements about Depp, she said that she is not calling anyone a liar as she was not there and does not know what really happened.
Ryder continued that their relationship was a big thing for her as they were together for many years and that they have a lot of mutual friends but she has never heard anything violent about him. She added, "But, again, I feel like even saying that, I'm going to get death threats or something. I'm not on social media, so maybe I will be spared."
The other exes of Depp, Lori Anne Allison and Vanessa Paradis have come forward echoing Ryder’s sentiments.
Depp and his legal team are saying that Heard is only making these claims for financial security. Heard has not yet commented on Ryder’s statements about Depp.
